Web Analytics collective Bangalore - After thoughts
23 11 2007It was an amazing experience! at Bangalore Barcamp5, I was happy to see a great crowd for the Web Analytics Collective session i was hosting. Thanks to Girish, Uma Shankar and Naveen, everything went on pretty well and was on of the interactive sessions. Though i should agree i got great feedback on how to make these sessions better!
The Agenda was simple!
- Introduction to Web Analytics
- Using Web Analytics to get a front row look into hearts and minds of your customers and prospects
- Web Reporting vs web Analysis
- Web Analytics Vendors.
- Open forum
Observations:
Web Analytics is gaining Importance: It was great to see how the participants were curious to understand how web analytics can help “measure, analyze and taking data driven decisions”. I would say Web Analytics in India now in a Knowledge gaining (understanding) phase, very soon it will become a inseparable part of any online business.
Web Analytics Data Capture Methodology: This part was probably discussed in detail, to understand the techniques used in data capture in web analytics. There was also great discussion on the privacy policy, the effect of the javascript on load time of the site, the latency factor.
Web Analytics Vendors, and their presence in India: The Myth that web analytics is only limited to Google Analytics was broken when the slide showing the Global web analytics players was shown, However it was great to see that there are some companies which are already using tools like Omniture, Web Trends and Unica.
Web Analytics Challenges in India:
- Web Analytics Education: Web Analytics is new and to evangelize Web Analytics as a tool to create data driven decision culture, it’s important end users are aware about the Power of Web Analytics tools.
- Web Analytics Reporting v/s Analysis: A paradigm shift is required to shift from understanding and using web analytics tools for reporting to using it for “feeling the pulse” of the web visitor and create a data driven decision making environment.
- Web Analytics Process/culture: It was clear that web analytics is yet to find it’s place for being a integral part of online business.
Web Analytics as a career option in India: With Web Analytics gaining importance, web analytics is one the great career options in the IT related services, and it is for sure difficult to find experienced folks around India.
Apart from Web Analytics, i was obliged to meet some great folks, one of them was Amit Agarwal who’s known for his blog (Digital Inspiration) in the blogosphere.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the web analytics fraternity for the knowledge they share via forum and a special thanks to Dennis R. Mortensen who shared his Presentation for this event!
Got somethings to say? Am i missing something ? Post your views here!
